What I’m Learning Lately

Life is a never-ending series of experiences. And as we go through each one, there’s always something to learn from it. Now I understand when people say age is just a number because you could be living for so many decades but if you haven’t really experienced a lot about life, then a younger person who’s been out there in the battlefield has probably more maturity and knowledge than you.

Spending time with interesting and enlightening people who I look up to that impart me with nuggets of wisdom along with certain personal experiences I come across with has inspired me to work on certain aspects of my character and discernment as I approach midlife. I’d like to share some of them in this blog. Who knows? A random reader like you could learn from it too.

  1. Tunnel vision on the things that’s doing great in your life, not what’s been missing.
  2. Be aware of the important issues in the world so you can somehow, prepare for what lies ahead.
  3. Learn to appreciate the value in silence.
  4. Once in a while, take a step back to see where you’re at emotionally, mentally and spiritually to check if you’re heading on the direction that you want to take.
  5. Have very low tolerance for people who have proven to be toxic based on their track record when you spend time with them.
  6. Embrace aging gracefully by continuously taking care of yourself, your relationships, your knowledge and your wealth. Find the gifts and value that you offer to the world that’s beyond your looks and body.
  7. Listen to what your intuition and what your body tells you and honor their requests.
  8. Learning to say NO firmly to encounters, events and offers that don’t feel truthful, inspiring or motivating.
  9. Let go of the ego’s unreasonable demands so that you can freely express yourself through artistic outlets such as painting, writing, performing or any form of creating.
  10. Don’t give your health diagnosis too much power by giving it a lot of attention that it doesn’t deserve. Instead, focus on how to heal, live and thrive.

What about you? What have you been learning and working on yourself lately?
