The Legacy I Wish To Leave Behind

by | Oct 23, 2021 | Winner Mindset

With the Koreans thriving so well on global media (Squid Game, Parasite, Minari, KDramas), my hope shines bright for the Filipino creatives in the very near future. May the time come when Filipino stories or Filipino culture infused global series, movies, or indie films will be heard and invested on. But it all starts with us helping and supporting each other.

The awful reality is, we only like to support our fellow countrymen and ride the fame bandwagon when it already becomes a global hit. But during the making, training or creating, we don’t bother caring at all. Or worse, we even pull off the crab mentality by being overcritical and patronize the foreign ones instead a.k.a. colonial mentality.
Wake up, Filipinos! It’s time we recognize how creative and talented we are, how inspiring our stories of resilience are, and how great we are at English speaking and listening that we don’t even need dubbing to be understood. We have something great to offer to the world not just in the world of beauty pageants, but also in the field of media, film and arts.
Having said this, I’m in the process of writing a memoir about a stubbornly curious Filipina with first world dreams and a screenplay about a Filipina cancer survivor who keeps winning even against all odds on her own in a foreign country. I’m hoping for your support as I make this happen because I believe in my heart that this will open doors for Filipino talents and creatives to shine on a global level. It’s a hard pitch with investors as Korea, Japan and China are the strong Asian brands and Filipino is considered a weak one right now but I am willing to take the risk of investing my money, time and effort because I believe in the Filipino people’s potential.
This is the dream legacy I intend to leave behind before I pass on. To contribute in making the Filipino literature, film and art a global household name the way Korea has been doing it right now. With us uniting and setting each other up for success and stopping all that crab and colonial mentality crap, we can be seen, heard and represented the way we deserve.
Hoping and praying for all your support in this quest. Bangon, Pilipinas! Hangga’t buhay, may pagkakataon maging masigla, maligaya at masagana. Sabayan lang ng sipag, tiyaga, at tiwala, may pag-asa.
