Today, a shocking news popped up on my Instagram… the forced shutdown of ABS-CBN. I don’t wanna look too deep into the details on who is really at fault here but regardless, ABS-CBN is and will always be my mother station in the Philippines that solidified me as “Kabagang “Jaymee Joaquin from “Games Up Late Live”, the midnight game show I used to host.
I’ve met and worked with so many hardworking and talented staff and crew that didn’t deserve losing their jobs right at the middle of a challenging pandemic where most of us are trying to make ends meet. I may have moved on from Philippine show business a long time ago and now re-establishing with a new artist name “Jaymee WINS” in California, but hearing this shocking news still made my morning gloomy despite the sunny blue San Diego skies.
I am not in the position to point fingers because I’m not updated with this issue but I know for sure that I owe ABS-CBN so much for making my childhood dream of being in front of the camera and a big audience come true. They are far from being perfect in terms of handling their people but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t be here (and so would the other artists and crew!) reaping the benefits of being an established name in the Philippines if not for them. So I stand by them at this very challenging time.
To give tribute and show support in my own little way, I’d like to walk you down memory lane with me! Salamat ABS-CBN for all these super amazing, mild-blowing, euphoric opportunities! I definitely had my time in the Philippines living like a rockstar in my 20s. At dahil diyan, nagbibigay pugay ako sayo. This ain’t over, Range Rover! Hanggang sa muli. 🙂
