Christmas is a time for fun, laughter, and playing plenty of games. However, this year is going to be a little different and you might not be able to spend it with the people you normally would. Like in my case where my family is in the Philippines and I’m here in the US. Some of you won’t be seeing your grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, etc due to there being too many people to comply with the COVID-19 restrictions or elderly relatives shielding. However, this doesn’t mean we can’t play as many games with them as we normally would. Plus, it actually might be a really good idea to keep those who are shielding and missing the kids busy and entertained. What games can you play with your loved ones who you can’t be with this festive season? Here’s 5 of them.

1) Words With Friends

Just like Scrabble, Words With Friends is a game where you have to make different words out of the random letters you are allocated. Some letters are worth more points than others and the words you choose to have to fit in and connect to other words on the board. However, what’s different about this game is that it is an app and as long as you and your friend or grandad have the app you can play with each other until your heart’s content. Here’s a cheeky tip too, if your opponent is too good then you can use the WWF word finder to get some help.

2) Quiz

Who doesn’t love a good Christmas Quiz? You could either all join one online or create your own and get everyone together on Zoom to play. There are plenty of ready-made quizzes that you can download if you don’t want to make your own questions or you could get everyone to come up with three questions each. Whatever way you decide to play it, a Christmas quiz is always a lot of fun and good for all ages.

3) Bingo

Another one for all ages is Bingo and again you can play this online over video chat. There are some automatic Bingo generators online so everyone will just need to print their cards off and then if one person generates the numbers and shares the screen, voila, you have Bingo.

4) Draw Something

Not traditionally a Christmas game and it can be played all year round (just like the others), but Draw Something is just like Words With Friends in that you can play on the app and as long as you and your friend or relative have the app, you can both play together even when you’re not together and it an be a lot of fun to do.

5) Escape Room

An Escape Room would have been the perfect activity to do on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, but don’t let the fact that they’re closed due to Coronavirus stop you. You can now play Escape Room games online and have just as much fun and you don’t all need to be in the same house to do it. This could be something your grandparents would never normally do, so could be a great way to keep them entertained this Christmas.
